Northern vs. Southern Agriculture- Farming was the primary way that most colonists were attempting to make a living. However, the Northern colonies had a tough time with that due to poor soil. The Northern colonies mostly relied on fish for their food and sustenance. The middle colonies were known as the "breadbasket" because they grew a lot of barley, wheat, and corn. They are known for growing the most food during this time period. The South could rely on tobacco as a cash crop due to the innovations of John Rolfe. They primarily exported their tobacco to make money.
First and Second Great Awakenings- Both the First and Second Great Awakenings were characterized by religious revivals that encouraged people to live more religious lives. They are shared throughout the colonies and serve to connect the colonies. However, they occurred at different times in history and had different effects.
